I don't care who you are - that's cool!Every day (or almost every day) I put the coolest factoids I can find (thanks mostly to ESPN) to the left of this page. Anytime I can find something that is related to Kansas City in some way, it will have a higher priority. Sometimes, they are just too long to fit into a single factoid, so I break them up into parts. Sometimes they are too long for that, so I can’t include them. This is one of those.

When your brain is under constant bombardment with bazillions of stats, two things can happen. You can either tune them all out or you can allow them to swim around in there making connections. I will confess that what few brain cells I have left do a lot of swimming around. I just have to hope they make connections based upon the same theory that even a blind squirrel can find a nut on occasion.

As you know, I work 40 hours a week as a stats editor for the Star. Although I don’t get to work on the blog much during that time, one thing is valuable... I see lots of information. Consequently, it allows me to think about what I might want to write.

When you see every box score and every result, you are at least aware of what is going on. Nothing leaps out and tells you what to write about, but it plants the seed. It’s my job – usually on the way home to southern JOCO (north Oklahoma) every night - to think about what to do with the information.

What prompts this less-than-meaty post was the fact that I was looking at the CHL (Central Hockey League) standings and noticed the Colorado Eagles are 7-0-1. I remembered the Denver Broncos were 6-0 at one point and I also recall the Colorado Avalanche were 10-1-2. And, that’s not all… the Denver Nuggets were recently 5-0.

That’s a combined 28-1-3 record to start the season for these four teams. This would only be sort of cool except that 28-1-3 is incredible! And, you wouldn’t expect the group to go 4-10 since then, but that’s exactly what has happened. The Broncos are 0-2, the Avalanche are 2-5, the Nuggets are 2-3. They still have excellent records, but it’s pretty interesting how the professional teams in the Denver area, who are playing right, now have followed such a similar path – both good and bad. One might assume the Eagles are now destined for some losses.

And, that my friends, is a cool factoid. That’s what I do. My name is Martin Manley. I’m a stataholic.
